Individual Child-Centred
Approach
Children must be taught how to think, not what to think
Tearmann Cottage adopts a deeply trauma-informed, individual child-centred approach that recognises each young person’s unique experiences, needs, and potential. We understand that trauma impacts every child differently, so we prioritise building trusting, consistent relationships as the foundation for healing and growth.
Our care is shaped around the child’s voice, promoting empowerment, emotional safety, and choice wherever possible. Through tailored support plans, therapeutic engagement, and nurturing routines, we create an environment where children feel seen, heard, and valued—enabling them to rebuild a sense of stability, develop resilience, and move forward at their own pace

We build personalised care plans in close consultation with the child, placing their voice and lived experience at the centre of decision-making. These plans are flexible and regularly reviewed, ensuring we can respond to the evolving emotional, psychological, and developmental needs of each young person. We work collaboratively with therapeutic professionals, families, and external agencies to create a holistic support system that fosters trust, empowerment, and positive relationships.
Through consistent routines, meaningful engagement, and a culture of curiosity rather than judgement, we aim to restore a sense of stability, identity, and belonging for every child. Our goal is to equip each young person with the tools to understand their own experiences, build resilience, and develop confidence in their ability to shape their future. Above all, we believe that every child deserves to be seen, heard, and supported in a way that honours who they are and who they have the potential to become
